It appears that Shadowkeep will have at least two storylines running during Season 8. The main story focuses on Eris Morn and the invasion of the shadows on the Moon. Destiny 2 players will return to the familiar location and cleanse whatever new darkness has taken hold so close to Earth. However, Bungie revealed that during Season 8, the Vex will be invading the solar system for some unknown purpose, meaning that players will also have to join together to face this undying foe. While Bungie did not reveal more than that, it seems that they are giving players more narrative threads to focus on this fall, and perhaps in future seasons as well.
Also during their GuardianCon visit, Bungie showcased new images of the Moon patrol zone that players will explore in Shadowkeep. The ominous Hive architecture is more present than ever on the Moon, and it seems players will get to explore plenty of the re-imagined Patrol Zone as they venture forward to figure out what the mysterious red citadel holds. While some shots from the small clip were familiar to those who played Destiny, it’s clear that the Moon has changed quite a bit in Destiny 2.
The Shadowkeep expansion will be bringing a lot of changes to Destiny 2 when it launches this Fall. Following Bungie’s split from Activision, many fans were curious as to how Destiny 2 development would change going forward. Now it’s clear that Bungie is focusing on creating a more RPG-focused experience that will evolve every season. Hopefully Shadowkeep will bring both new and returning players in for what could be a bright future for Destiny.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
