While most of the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer features scenes that fans have already seen, some new footage is the perfect ingredient to increase hype. Apart from Evil Strange suddenly manifesting a third eye, the trailer also confirms that WandaVision actors Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne will be returning as Wanda’s twin sons Billy and Tommy. Is it a potential family reunion, or a recipe for disaster? Only time will tell.

The trailer begins with an immediate connection between Doctor Strange and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. While the two have not spent a lot of time together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the trailer confirms that their current scenarios aren’t very different. They both seem to have recurring dreams, or “nightmares” as Wanda puts it, of what could be another universe. While Strange dreams of his love for Christine Palmer, Wanda is haunted by memories of her sons. The post-credits scene in WandaVision established that both Billy and Tommy did exist in the Multiverse, and perhaps the dreams are just the heroes’ way of connecting to an alternate reality.

The rest of the trailer is packed with clips from the much-awaited film, and offers glimpses of a post-apocalyptic world, large creatures, impending battles, and zombies. While fans have already seen zombies in the MCU in animated form, as part of Disney Plus’ What If…?, the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer offers a closer look at the live-action Strange and Wanda zombies. It remains to be seen what role they will play in the plot, but it doesn’t seem like a friendly face.

Speaking of What If..?, the supposed Evil Strange now seems to have powers that leave even Doctor Strange surprised. Fans are comparing his third eye, which makes a brief appearance in the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer, to the Eye of Agamotto. The character in the animated series also had a similar third eye, making the connection between the two MCU projects even stronger. Considering his powers, and now a third eye, it doesn’t seem like Evil Strange will be the ally that Doctor Strange is looking for.

Apart from the new trailer, Marvel also released multiple new posters for the film that feature Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch prominently. The supporting characters appearing on the poster include Benedict Wong’s Sorcerer Supreme Wong, Rachel McAdams’ Dr. Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo, and Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres in theaters on May 6, 2022.
