His appearance in the latest superhero blockbuster from Marvel Studios came in the form of a surprise cameo in a post-credits sequence to offer assistance to Angelina Jolie’s Thena, Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari, and Barry Keoghan’s Druig. There was no announcement made of Styles’ appearance prior to the release of Eternals, though there was much speculation about his involvement circulating online.

The tweeted poster from Marvel Studios is its first official acknowledgment of Styles’ introduction to the MCU, some three weeks after Eternals’ theatrical release. The tweet reads, “Meet the Royal Prince of Titan, brother of Thanos, the Knave of Hearts, defeater of Black Roger, the great adventurer, Starfox,” referring to the many names Eros goes by in the source material. Styles appears in costume in the poster, which is a close-up of an ethereal-looking Eros gazing into the distance. In the same vein as his very small appearance in the movie, the poster doesn’t give much away while still eliciting a ton of excitement from fans.
So far it’s not clear what exactly lies ahead for the character of Eros and Styles’ role within the MCU as an extension, but it will likely be significant. The inclusion of the character wasn’t just exciting and surprising because of Styles’ casting, who was reportedly hand-picked by director Chloe Zhao, but because many fans were not even sure he would be included at all. Eros is known as Thanos’ brother but had not mentioned at all throughout the Infinity saga. Hardcore fans of the little-known comic book character will be pleased he wasn’t axed from Eternals like the two other characters who Zhao had to cut out from the movie’s final iteration.
The introduction of even more new characters was actually seen as a point of weakness for Eternals to some, as the film has been criticized as all exposition and backstory rather than containing characters with real depth and intrigue. Although character development was minimal, the stellar cast was praised, and with high-profile stars like Kit Harington and Salma Hayek among an impressive ensemble, it’s easy to see why. The poor critical reception of the movie may mean it’s unlikely there’ll be any Eternals sequels, but with the multiverse persisting, Styles will almost definitely be seen again.
While still busy making music, Styles has also since been cast in two other features, Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman, both still in production. It seems a burgeoning acting career is ahead of him.
Eternals can currently be seen in theaters.
