As reported by Dexerto, the online page for Nintendo Directs was updated earlier this morning. While it could mean nothing, some have taken this as a sign that the company is finally planning to host its long-awaited Nintendo Direct presentation. It’s been nearly a year since the last proper Nintendo Direct, and so many fans are growing impatient with the lack of information about new first-party Switch games.

This piece of evidence joins things like industry insider reports that a Nintendo Direct is happening in the first half of September, as well as the fact that Nintendo was indeed planning to be at E3 this year. Even though the E3 2020 was canceled because of the coronavirus, the announcements Nintendo had planned for the show didn’t just disappear, and so it’s just a matter of time before it pulls the curtain back.
As for what Nintendo will reveal at its next Nintendo Direct presentation, that remains to be seen. Perhaps the most consistent rumor is that Nintendo is going to showcase a 3D Super Mario collection at the Nintendo Direct that will bring together Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in a single package. A standalone Super Mario 3D World Switch port is rumored as well, with the belief that these games will be released as a way to celebrate the Super Mario franchise’s 35th anniversary.
Meanwhile, reports have indicated that an upgraded Switch console is in active development for release in 2021, and that Nintendo is actually planning to release a slew of games around that system’s release date. If so, maybe Nintendo will use the rumored September Nintendo Direct presentation to properly announce the new console. Whatever the case may be, here’s hoping the long-awaited Nintendo Direct happens sooner rather than later.
