In an interview with Empire, Ash Williams actor Bruce Campbell dished on the next entry in the series. The film, titled Evil Dead Now, will be written and directed by Lee Cronin, who Sam Raimi handpicked, according to Campbell. His work includes 2019’s supernatural horror film The Hole in the Ground and the Méliès d’Argent award-winning short Ghost Train.

With Ash out of the picture, the film will instead star a female protagonist, much like the 2013 Evil Dead reboot. Also like the reboot, Raimi and Campbell will return as producers. When discussing the film, Campbell said, “From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating."  He added that the newest entry will be “a little more dynamic” this time around. According to Campbell, the spirit of the films will remain the same.

“We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

Ash Williams may not be appearing in the next Evil Dead, but Ash DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 has been rumored for a long time. Unfortunately, recent evidence has shown this is likely not happening. Even Bruce Campbell himself shot down the rumors online. Ash has made appearances in other franchises, however. The survival horror game Dead by Daylight released Ash vs Evil Dead DLC last year.

The character has had a decent history with video games, even getting his own title back in 2005. A new Evil Dead game was teased by Bruce Campbell in 2019, who said it would release relatively soon. Not much has been heard about the game since, but the pandemic may be to blame.
