Phoenix Point is developed by XCOM series creator Julian Gollop. This is a tactics game much in the same vein as the modern entries in the XCOM franchise. It also has a similar sci-fi setting, despite a different visual aesthetic from XCOM’s retro-future look. The game was set to be released on PC and Xbox One last week, but only arrived on one of the platforms.

Following the lack of Phoenix Point’s arrival on the Microsoft Store and Game Pass, developer Snapshot Games released a statement on its blog addressing the issue saying “we dropped the ball.”

The answer to why Phoenix Point did not hit its release date on Xbox is far less exciting than anything fans might have rampantly speculated.

It turns out most of the barriers to the games’ release on Xbox are legal. Snapshot games wants to get the game to a level comparable to the PC release before launching on the Microsoft and Windows Store and Xbox Game Pass. The statement on the blog gave no ETA or expected release date for Phoenix Point on console.

Specifically, we are currently unable to make the same content available on Microsoft’s platform that is available to players on other platforms. Since we want to make sure all players have access to all versions of Phoenix Point regardless of where they choose to play, we need to get this working before we can release.

Phoenix Point is out now on the Epic Game Store and is pending release on Xbox One.
