As reported by Empire, the talented new cast will be playing a mature group of old acquaintances who have been called to Greece to participate in a murder-mystery game. Lesile Odom Jr. will waltz into the Knives Out sequel as Lionel Toussaint, joined by Kathryn Hahn as Connecticut governor Claire Debella and Kate Hudson as designer Birdie Jay. Hahn’s character is said to rub several characters the wrong way and may play an integral role in the events of the film.

The new cast will also include Edward Norton as tech disruptor Miles Bron, See star Dave Bautista as YouTube star Duke Cody, Jessica Henwick as Birdie’s assistant Peg, and Janelle Monáe as entrepreneur Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand. Each new character is incredibly different in their professional fields, which may play a part in their cryptic personalities and the antagonism that develops between them as the murder-mystery game transforms into something real and consequential. Empire also unveiled new photos of the cast, offering the best look yet at some members of the ensemble.

A notable absence from the revealed character descriptions is The Black Phone star Ethan Hawke, who will also be joining the newly assembled cast of characters. Hawke’s notable absence could mean several things, but it could point toward the talented actor portraying the wealthy friend who gathered everyone together in Greece. Nevertheless, it is unclear whether his character will play an integral role or if his character’s death will be the loose peddle that sparks the avalanche of events.

Knives Out first arrived in 2019 and was received well across the board from both critics and audiences. The film generated over $311 million worldwide and became a cinematic conversational piece throughout its long theatrical run. It is difficult to capture lightning in a bottle twice, but Knives Out 2 will look to replicate and enhance the murder-mystery film. The return of Craig as detective Benoit Blanc will ensure Knives Out 2 stays true to its roots, but it will be interesting to see the unique take the newly assembled cast can add to the well-known franchise.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will hit Netflix on December 23, 2022.
