The entire city, in fact, is heartbroken and bitter their beloved Saints were denied a spot in the big dance.
That sense of frustration was epitomised by the headline in Monday’s edition of New Orleans’ award-winning newspaper, ‘The Times-Picayune’.
“Super Bowl? What Super Bowl?” the front-page headline read.
The paper continued the trolling on its sports page lead, referencing the Rams’ failure to score a touchdown in the 13-3 loss to the Patriots.
A headline read: “What do the Rams and the Saints have in common? Neither scored a touchdown in Super Bowl LIII.”
This angst and bitterness has been the norm in New Orleans ever since that fateful no call involving Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman and Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis in the NFC title game. On Super Bowl Sunday, thousands of Saints fans took to the streets in New Orleans to protest the fact their team was not playing in the big game.
