The trailer is split into three parts, with each one focusing on a different aspect of what to expect from the wild Pokemon. The whole thing is accompanied by a cheery narrator, which makes it sounds like some sort of educational video. The trailer features plenty of Pokemon throughout, but some are highlighted more than others. The first part, for instance, which is centered around Pokemon behaviors, draws attention to a pair of Sobble spraying a nearby Venusaur with water and a pair of Luvdisc sleeping within a just as relaxed Corsola’s branches.

At one point, a Drifblim can be seen carrying a Clamperl through the air. Anyone familiar with the Pokemon and its PokeDex entries may expect this to have some very sinister undertones. The Pokemon Shield PokeDex says that no one knows where it carries the Pokemon and people it grabs, but it’s seen here  dropping the Clamperl back into the water, reuniting it with some other Clamperl.

The second section highlights how Pokemon act differently at night. Once again, the glowing Meganium that has been featured prominently in New Pokemon Snap’s advertising is shown, as well as groups of sleeping Bouffalant and Toucannon. Not every Pokemon will be fast asleep, though. A Scorbunny can be seen running among the sleeping Bouffalant, which may tempt players to try waking them up to see what happens.

The last part covers Pokemon instincts, which shows examples of when Pokemon will fight each other over territory or other reasons. The Zangoose/Seviper rivalry is featured at one point and the narrator also explains how Chinchou uses its glowing antennae to attract prey, reminding everyone that some Pokemon do eat other Pokemon. However, Chinchou winds up being put to sleep by the Inkay it lures in, so don’t expect to actually see the act of one Pokemon eating another on-screen. It would be a bit morbid.

New Pokemon Snap releases for Nintendo Switch on April 30th.
